The Aquitaine Region is governed by a Regional Council, an assembly of 85 members elected by universal suffrage and an Economic and Social Council.
The Regional Council, which is the council with the youngest members in all French local and regional authorities, endeavours to go about politics in a new way and to experiment with new forms of public action.
It makes it possible for the people of Aquitaine to be involved in the main strategic orientations of regional – but also national and international – policy. It ensures the consistency of the policies pursued on the territories it is made of and which have an economy, a knowledge, a culture and a heritage in common.
